The Center
The Centro Internacional e Iberoamericano de Arbitraje de Madrid (CIIAM) was created in 2020 through the merger of the international activity of three leading arbitral institutions in Spain, its founders: the Madrid Court of Arbitration (CAM), of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services; the Spanish Court of Arbitration (CEA), of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce; and the Civil and Commercial Arbitration Court (CIMA). The Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) joined as a strategic partner.
In 2024 the Ibero-American Arbitration Center (CIAR) also joined as a strategic partner, reinforcing CIIAM’s Ibero-American DNA by bringing with it the institutional backing of the Heads of State and Government, the chambers and business and trade organizations, and the bar associations and leading lawyers’ associations of Ibero-America.
In April 2025, the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM Santiago) joined CIIAM as an affiliated partner – the highest category of integration, with the same status as the founding institutions – integrating its international arbitration activity into CIIAM, with full participation in its governing bodies, a dedicated team and a CIIAM office in Chile.
In June 2026, CIIAM and the Arbitration Center of the Costa Rican Bar Association (CAM-CR) entered into an institutional cooperation agreement to strengthen international arbitration in Central America and the Caribbean, under which CAM-CR refers its international activity to CIIAM, which now has an office in San José, Costa Rica.
In September 2026, the Conciliation, Arbitration and Amicable Composition Center of the Medellín Chamber of Commerce for Antioquia (CCMA) joined as a collaborating partner: it refers its international activity to CIIAM and appoints a representative to the Center’s Plenary, with CIIAM thereby adding a further office in Medellín.
CIIAM’s aim is to develop international arbitration in an integrated and joint manner, with particular emphasis on the Ibero-American region, without prejudice to the strategic interest of other axes: Europe, Africa, Asia and their relations with Ibero-America.
CIIAM operates in four languages (Spanish, Portuguese, English and French) and allows the seat of the arbitration to be established in any city in the world, with hearings held virtually or in person, and has offices in Madrid, Santiago de Chile, San José and Medellín. Since its creation it has maintained a firm commitment to excellence, independence, efficiency and closeness, which has translated into sustained growth and a solid international position.
